Approach:

In a society that changes rapidly, almost without realizing, it’s complex to adapt to the new day-to-day perspectives, whether they are directly related to daily life, to coexistence or even to survival; without leaving aside those sensations and consequences that are generated in each individual. Thus, looking for a way to understand our environment becomes a need.

But it is also essential to think of solutions, to suggest new ways of looking, of photography, of explaining that, despite all the constant changes, the environment and our subjectivity continue to exist.

“Beasts Night” proposes an investigation of the Menorca we know, of the past and the future, without forgetting that all of them will exist at the same time.

Photography is, here, a necessary tool to be able to give life to these realities, even when they are imaginary, because visual language is the gateway to everything that cannot be explained with words, taking shape and existence outside of established limits.

Regarding the title of the residency, the aim is to leave the doors open for each participant to find their own interpretation, to be able to explain the beasts they see around them whether they are part of nature, not human, or those that are present in humans who seek to conquer their nature.

Imaginary worlds can also be created to develop ideas, always starting from the basis that the Beasts Night has as many shapes as the changing shadows of the trees that, sculpted by the wind, configure the Menorcan Artists’ House surroundings and its mysteries, forged through time.

*Two scholarships will be given to under 30 artists. They must have a minimum background of photography studies and a solo exhibition. Furthermore, have to have a photography project in  research or production phase. Those who apply for a scholarship can also fill out the General Application section in order to secure a place in case they are not chosen or eligible for the scholarship.
