Els fotògrafs David Arquimbau i Ester Villaescusa entrecreuen la mirada en aquest assaig visual sobre l’illa i els seus contrastos. Arquimbau, en la seva sèrie,«Estimats turistes», mostra l’estiu i la seva influència transformadora en el comportament dels humans, el poder de la indústria turística imposant l’estètica en l’arquitectura, en l’oferta complementària i, fins i tot, en els seus usuaris. Mentrestant, Villaescusa ho contraposa amb «BIENVENIDOS, BIENVENUE, WELCOME, BENVENUTI WILLKOMMEN, BENVINGUTS». No li fa por la lletjor, l’atrau tot el que és erràtic i que s’allunya del cànon de bellesa, mostrant les parts de Menorca que costen més d’acceptar com a pròpies en l’imaginari de paradís mediterrani en el qual estem submergits.

David Arquimbau. El seu radi d’acció i treball com a fotògraf d’autor es limita dins de l’illa de Menorca, on pertany el seu univers. Observa i parla de la realitat que l’envolta i de si mateix amb coneixement del territori. 

Ester Villaescusa. Fotògrafa i retocadora professional, la seva obra personal es genera a partir de mirar i rastrejar el paisatge, sempre des d’un humor i una mirada aparentment distant.

Arquimbau, en su serie, Estimats turistes, muestra el verano y su influencia transformadora en el comportamiento de los humanos, el poder de la industria turística imponiendo su estética en la arquitectura, en la oferta complementaria e incluso en sus usuarios. Mientras que Villaescusa, lo contrapone con BIENVENIDOS BIENVENUE WELCOME BENVENUTI WILLKOMMEN BENVINGUTS, a quien no le da miedo la fealdad, atraída por todo lo errático y que se aleja del canon de belleza, mostrando aquellas partes de Menorca que cuestan más de aceptar como propias en el imaginario de paraíso mediterráneo en el que estamos sumergidos.

David Arquimbau. Su radio de acción y trabajo como fotógrafo de autor se limita a la isla de Menorca, donde pertenece su universo. Observa y habla de la realidad que le rodea y de sí mismo con conocimiento del territorio.

Ester Villaescusa. Fotógrafa y retocadora profesional. Su obra personal se genera a partir de mirar y rastrear el paisaje, siempre desde un humor y mirada aparentemente distante.

Photographers David Arquimbau and Ester Villaescusa look at each other in this visual essay on the island and its contrasts. Arquimbau, in his series, Estimats turistes, shows summer and its transforming influence in human behavior, the power of the tourism industry imposing aesthetics in the architecture, in the complementary offer and even in its users. Meanwhile, Villaescusa contrasts it with «WELCOME, BIENVENUE, WELCOME, BENVENUTI WILLKOMMEN, BENVINGUTS. She is afraid of ugliness, in fact she is attracted by everything that is erratic and that departs from the canon of beauty, showing the parts of Menorca that cost more to accept as our own in the imaginary Mediterranean paradise in which we are submerged

David Arquimbau. Its radius of action and work as a photographer is limited to the island of Menorca, where his universe belongs. He observes and talks about the reality that surrounds him and about himself with knowledge of the territory. 

Ester Villaescusa. Professional photographer and digital photography retoucher, her personal work is generated from looking at and tracing the landscape, always with a sense of humor and an apparently distant gaze.
