This is a session dedicated exclusively to island cinematographies. A proposal in collaboration with the international festival “Insularia”, the only Spanish-speaking event that bets on a cinema that is a window to the cultural diversity of the islands of the world. This is a unique cultural proposal that is structured in a multidisciplinary way and that aims to consolidate itself as an international forum for the islands of the world.

 

CAMINO DE LAVA (2022, VO spanish, 27 min.)

Gretel Marín (Cuba)

Afibola is a queer and black Cuban mother, who tries to teach her child Olorun the tools to be a free Afro-descendant despite the obstacles that surround her. In the intimacy of the spaces in which their community coexists, the difficulty of educating a black child in a racist and discriminatory society is reflected.

The vibrant youth of Ardnamurchan, the westernmost point of the British mainland in the Scottish Highlands, recounts their experiences, challenges and hopes for the future. Beyond a collection of voices, it is a celebration of resilience and commitment to forging a future that honors its roots.

In 1968, legendary German filmmaker Werner Herzog shot the film Also the dwarfs started small on the island of Lanzarote. More than half a century later, a peculiar scientist will try to recover sounds from the past.

Aminodin’s father always smiles because he says that “the cheerful people live longer”. That is why, at the age of eight, Aminodin puts his best smile while working at the Papandayan landfill, where he lives with his family. His cousin Aliman, on the other hand, lost his job when in the city of Marawi bombs began to fall from the sky.
