BIOSPHERE AWARD FOR DOCUMENTARY CREATION
Screening of the short films produced with the Menorca Doc Fest 2026 Documentary Creation Grant. In collaboration with the Fundació Foment de Turisme de Menorca, the Menorca Film Commission, and the Sant Lluís Town Council.
First Letter to My Family (2026, 12 min.), by Miquel Gomila. Miquel, an agnostic filmmaker, wants to make a documentary about his family’s faith. They agree, on one condition: he must be guided by a priest who is a family friend, who has taken a vow of concealment and cannot appear on camera or be heard on audio. Through an exchange of letters, the priest warns him that, to earn his family’s acceptance, he must set aside mere curiosity and open himself to letting the mystery of faith challenge him personally. The short film thus becomes an intimate exploration of how to film the invisible, and of whether love and mutual understanding are possible between opposing beliefs.
Miquel Gomila has directed Mikado (available on Filmin) and En Mesquida, winning awards at national festivals. His project Sa Família was selected for DocsBarcelona Pro. He is currently writing, directing, and producing his first series in associated production for 3Cat, and directs commercials at Bogamarí films.
Sea Skin (2026, 10 min.), by Nina Cholet.
Once upon a time there was Posidonia, in Menorca, an ancient guardian that cares for the sea and the land — until iron tore through its skin and soul. Part of this ecosystem is the Wild Olive, Posidonia’s terrestrial sibling, which takes part in the developing process of the Super 8 film. This sensory immersion tends to our relationship with the Mediterranean’s blue lung.
Nina Cholet. Filmmaker and transdisciplinary artist trained in Art in Public Spaces. Her films have been shown at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Kyotographie, the Dansfestivalen in Gothenburg, and other festivals. She is developing a research-based practice around analog film, experimenting with various processes of intervention on film.
Fresh Water (2026, 17 min.), by Cristina Enrich Pericás. In Menorca, Flora and Marc face the water crisis: wells drying up, poorly managed resources, and an increasingly fragile stream. Between resistance and uncertainty, their lives reflect the struggle to maintain balance with the land.
Cristina Enrich Pericás. Menorcan filmmaker and production manager, graduate in Audiovisual Communication (UVic). Specialized in coordinating fiction and non-fiction projects, she makes her social documentary debut with Fresh Water.
At the end of the session, the Audience Award will be given by popular vote. Everyone will be able to participate.
