PREMIER OF AMÍLCAR, MIGUEL EEK
Often called the African Che Guevara, Amílcar Cabral led the anti-colonial movement in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde against Portuguese colonialism until his assassination in 1973. Human rights, utopias, interracial love, ambition, war, and betrayal shape this free-form portrait built from archival footage and an imagined 16mm diary.
Following the screening of Amílcar (2025, original version with subtitles, 87 min, 8+), there will be a discussion with producer Javier del Álamo.
Javier del Álamo. He has produced feature-length documentaries such as En un lloc de la ment (Málaga Film Festival, 2025), Refugis de paper (Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, 2025), and Amílcar (2025), directed by Miguel Eek and premiered at IDFA, where it received the Outstanding Artistic Contribution award.
