‘RETROSPECTIVA D’UN POBLE (IV)’, FRANK ADROVER

An exhibition of photographs by the Maó photographer Francesc Adrover i Mercadal (1856-1924), who at the end of 1881 decided to travel through every corner of the island of Menorca. His intention was probably to bring photography to the other towns and places where there was not yet a photographer, and in this way to photograph anyone who wished it.

Adrover not only practiced photography but also considered himself, and worked as, a painter and sculpture modeler, as well as an inventor. He not only designed and built a photographic shutter in order to work with the new dry plates, but also, once settled in the Caribbean, devised a device for aerial navigation.
