BIOSPHERE CALL TO CREATION OF DOCUMENTARY FILM

1. DESCRIPTION OF THE CALL

The call seeks projects sensitive or dedicated to the environment, nature, sustainability, ecology, science and biodiversity, ancestral crafts and inspiring initiatives for a transformation towards a more sustainable Menorca. They must be documentaries with topics directly or indirectly related to the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDG 2030).

3 projects will be selected to create short documentary films that will have the support of the Menorca Film Commission and Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca in the form of production aid worth €3,500 (taxes included). Billing will be 50% once the aid is granted and 50% upon delivery of the project report along with the resulting short film.

 

The scholarship also includes a training residency in documentary scripting at Casa d’Artistes (Es Mercadal) and the figure of a mentor with knowledge of the local context, whose purpose will be to accompany the creation and production processes to guarantee their technical, narrative and quality. of content.

 

PHASES OF THE PROCESS AND CALENDAR

Pre-production: from May 15 to June 2024

  • Script residency at Casa d’Artistes: June 10-14, 2024 (exact dates to be determined).
  • Preparation of script or outline of the short film and review.
  • Production calendar, locations, permit processing, etc.

 

Production: from June to September 2024

  • Recording of shots and sequences and review of material according to dates agreed with the authors.

 

Post-production: September 2024

  • Editing of the short film and review of the work in mentoring according to dates agreed with the authors.
  • Short film review in post-production.

DIFFUSION

Menorca Doc Fest Programming · October 2024

  • The resulting short films will be programmed and premiered within the section of the 6th edition of the MDF, in the BIOSFERA Section, for documentary creation, which will take place on the weekend of October 18 to 20, 2024. The presence of the authors is essential. during the premiere.

 

MDF PUBLIC PRIZE 2024

  • The documentary most voted for by the public will receive the honorary Biosphere award.

 

Other projections

    • The organizers of the Menorca Doc Fest call, Menorca Film Commission, Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca and Menorca Preservation reserve the right to organize public screenings out of competition at collaborating festivals, professional conferences or film exhibitions with the aim of disseminating and promoting the award for creation and authors. The screenings will always be done in coordination with the authors in case their presence is necessary. The costs of production of the activity, projection, dissemination or derivatives thereof, will be borne by the organizers.

 

2. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

General requirements

  • Emerging or established creators and audiovisual production companies can participate. Teams must be at least two people.
  • Projects must be newly created or in progress. In no case can they be finalized.
  • In-person participation in the script residency and the agreed mentorships will be mandatory.
  • The teams must sign a commitment to sustainability in the filming process.
  • The theme of the project presented and the resulting film will be free, as long as it is aligned with the purpose of the call and its objectives.
  • Contents that are missing regarding any person, group, group or entity will not be accepted. They cannot induce proselytism, nor specific political, religious or hate speech.
  • The original documentary must be accompanied by subtitles transcribed in the original language as an element of accessibility. Subsequently, the documentary may be subtitled in the languages deemed appropriate for its dissemination.
  • The FFTM (Fundación de Foment del Turisme de Menorca – Menorca Film Commission) may have the video available for 5 years from the day of release for use, without commercial purposes.

  • The documentary must include the logos of: Menorca Doc Fest, Menorca Film Commission and Menorca, Consell Insular de Menorca, Institut d’Estudis Balearics, Menorca Preservation, Ajuntament de Sant Lluís.

 

Excluded:

  • Actions that do not agree with the purposes of the FFTM, included in its statutes, as well as with the objectives of Menorca

 

Requirements of the resulting films

  • The duration of the short must be a minimum of 8 minutes and a maximum of 25 minutes.
  • The producers and directors must be the owners of all the rights to the work produced, as well as have all the rights to use the images and audios that make it up.
  • Recording of the short film in 4K video quality resolution (recommended), the minimum resolution required is FullHD (1080). Direct sound, with a recorder and microphone external to the video camera and with a minimum quality of 44100 hz. (recommended: 48000 hz 32 bits.)
  • The resulting short films must be in Catalan and/or subtitled in Catalan.

 

3. REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR THE CALL
The request for participation must be made using the official registration
form.

  • The following documents must be attached in PDF format (maximum 10 MB per document)
  • Curriculum of the members of the team or production company.
  • Sample of previous works (dossier and video links).
  • Project proposal with the following index (maximum 5 pages): synopsis, short ladder or script for the short, provisional production schedule.
